CHELSEA have made a surprise enquiry for Harry Maguire, according to reports.
The Blues are said to feel they may be in with a chance of landing the out of form Man Utd captain due to the Red Devils' interest in Christian Pulisic.
They have also reportedly held positive talks with former Arsenal skipper Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, with the parties comfortably reaching a landing zone in contract negotiations.
There is said to be an increasing optimism at Chelsea and Barcelona that a deal can be done, but the Blues are not ready to reach Barcelona's £25m asking price.
Aubameyang is said to be regarded as a stopgap until next summer, when Chelsea will reportedly look to sign top target Christopher Nkunku of RB Leipzig.
It is also reported that Chelsea have agreed terms with Wesley Fofana, though are yet to reach an agreement with Leicester.
Fofana is now said to be keen to force the issue and has reportedly asked to be left out of the Leicester squad.

Set the Toney
Chelsea and Everton have joined Manchester United in the race to sign Brentford star Ivan Toney, according to reports.
The Red Devils are set for a busy final ten days in the transfer market, as they desperately look to bolster Erik ten Hag’s squad following a shocking start.
United are keen on Bees striker Toney and could launch a bid before the end of the window, but they may not be the only ones.
According to the Mirror, Chelsea and Everton also see the 26-year-old as the answer to their respective forward woes.

Bad news for Thomas Tuchel's team I'm afraid…
What a howler from Edouard Mendy!
The Chelsea goalkeeper has an age to deal with Thiago Silva's backpass, but he dithers and dallies in possession of the ball, eventually presenting just enough of the ball to Brenden Aaronson.
The American doesn't pass up the opportunity, and quickly steals it away from the hapless Mendy before rolling it into the empty net.
Then Rodrigo headed home a delightful free-kick to put the hosts 2-0 up.
Elland Road is bouncing.

Raheem Sterling scores…
…but the flag quickly goes up to indicate offside.
The Chelsea forward latched on to a ball over the top, turned Koch inside out, and then curled smartly into the bottom corner.
However, he had set off too early on his run, and was rightly penalised as being a yard off.

Tuchel will be in dugout today
There are some surprise names on the visitors' bench this afternoon, but the biggest shock may be the appearance of Thomas Tuchel in the dugout.
The German was expected in the stands today after his red card against Tottenham last weekend saw him slapped with a one-match touchline ban.
However, the punishment has been temporarily suspended until an independent commission publishes their report into the incident.
While many may be surprised by the Chelsea boss' emergence on the touchline today, Tuchel insists he is not.
Leeds starting XI
The hosts team is as follows:
1 Meslier; 25 Kristensen, 5 Koch, 14 Llorente, 21 Struijk; 8 Roca, 12 Adams; 20 James, 7 Aaronson, 11 Harrison; 19 Rodrigo
Bamford is OUT
Leeds manager Jesse Marsch has admitted that Patrick Bamford's omission was a late and difficult call, but in the end he decided to play it safe with important games coming up.
He said: "[Patrick Bamford] was close, we’re being cautious with both him and Liam Cooper. We’ll see what it means for Wednesday.
"We like our team. Rodrigo playing up top will be good for us. He’s had such a good start to the season, and we know he’s our most goal dangerous player right now."
Pulisic on bench amid transfer talk
Teenager Chukwumeka is also among the Blues substitutes.
Here's the full bench:
1 Kepa, 10 Pulisic, 14 Chalobah, 20 Hudson-Odoi, 21 Chilwell, 22 Ziyech, 28 Azpilicueta, 30 Chukwumeka, 44 Ampadu
CHELSEA XI vs Leeds
Conor Gallagher makes his first start for Chelsea this afternoon in the heart of midfield.
The England international's inclusion in place of the injured N'Golo Kante is the only change that Thomas Tuchel makes from the team that started against Tottenham.
Once again, it's a 3-4-2-1 formation for the Blues, who will still look to Reece James to attack down the right despite his position as a third centre-back.
Jorginho takes the captain's armband while the line is led by Kai Havertz.
16 Mendy; 24 James, 26 Koulibaly, 6 Thiago Silva; 12 Loftus-Cheek, 23 Gallagher, 5 Jorginho, 32 Cucurella; 17 Sterling, 19 Mount; 29 Havertz
Marsch huge fan of Pulisic
Leeds boss Jesse Marsch has declared he would love to work with his American compatriot Christian Pulisic.
He said: “Christian is a big, big talent, the best in our country.
“The expectations on him are high, he has met a lot of those expectations. But with his talent, people are demanding more.
“Everytime I’ve coached against him, he’s scored. I don’t have any negative criticisms.
“I would love to work with him, whether it is with the national team in the distant future. He has created a lot of firsts for American players.”
How Chelsea could line up vs Leeds
Chelsea will be without midfield duo Kante and Kovacic.
Kante was withdrawn in the 84th minute against Spurs due to a hamstring injury.
Barcelona-bound Marcos Alonso is also expected to be absent.
Edouard Mendy is expecting to keep his place in goal.
Goal scorers against Tottenham, Reece James and Kalidou Koulibaly, are expected to start in a back three with Thiago Silva.
Ruben Loftus-Cheek started at right wing-back against Spurs, and he could be handed more minutes to impress.
Jorginho may start with Conor Gallagher in the middle of the park following Kante's injury.
Summer signing Marc Cucurella should keep his place ahead of Ben Chilwell.
Kai Havertz may yet again be joined by Raheem Sterling and Mason Mount in the front three.
Tuchel not on touchline today
Chelsea will be without boss Thomas Tuchel for this weekend's Premier League clash against Leeds.
Chelsea are heading into the Elland Road fixture off the back of a feisty 2-2 draw with rivals Tottenham.
The game saw controversial calls made by referees as well as a bust-up between former Blues Premier League-winning manager Antonio Conte and Tuchel.
An intense handshake at full-time following a late Harry Kane equaliser saw both managers receive a red card.
And as a result, Tuchel will not be on the touchline to manage his team against Leeds.
McLeish urges Pulisic to join Newcastle
Former Scotland boss Alex McLeish believes Chelsea winger Christian Pulisic should link up with Newcastle.
He told Football Insider: “Is he similar to [Miguel] Almiron?
“He’s not so much a centre-forward, more of a number 10 or he comes in from the wide areas.
“These are the types of players Newcastle will be looking at. Pulisic has not made the impact you thought he might when Klopp had him at Dortmund. Klopp thought he had everything.
“He hasn’t made a massive impact with Chelsea, even though when he does come on you think ‘wow. this guy catches the eye’.
“Maybe there is less pressure in going to a club like Newcastle, it might help him.”
Team news vs leeds
Leeds' lengthy list of injuries will have some new additions as gaffer Jesse Marsch confirmed that Patrick Bamford picked up a knock during the match against Southampton.
Whilst Joe Gelhardt felt a little pain the day before the game which ruled him out.
They add to the quartet of Junior Firpo, Luke Ayling, Stuart Dallas and Liam Cooper.
Elsewhere, Thomas Tuchel will be hoping assistant coach Arno Michels can step up to the plate for this weekends clash with Leeds.
However, Michels is set to be without French icon N'Golo Kante who picked up a hamstring injury against Tottenham.
And Mateo Kovacic's knee problems continues to keep him in the treatment room.
As for full-back Marcos Alonso, the Spaniard has played no part for Chelsea this season as he is trying to finalise a move to Barcelona.

There will be NO early coverage on Sky Sports Main Event.
Werner blames strategy for exit
RB Leipzig signing Timo Werner has blamed Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel’s tactics as the reason why things didn’t work out at Stamford Bridge.
Werner returned to Leipzig this summer, and he claims Tuchel’s strategy didn’t compliment his style of play.
The striker said: “Of course, I had great success at Chelsea, but the fun got a bit lost in the end because I didn’t play regularly anymore.
“I think the coach’s system of play didn’t suit me perfectly.
“That’s why it was clear to me that I wanted to take a new step.
“I’m at an age where I want to play as much as I can.”
Tuchel expects tough test from Leeds
Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel has stated he is expecting an “emotional” game at Elland Road on Sunday.
He said: “I expect a high-intensity game, a high-pressing team from Leeds and a very emotional stadium.
“We had a fantastic game last season at Elland Road and scored very early, very dominant and very focused and effective in front of goal.
“Of course, there was an early red card that played into our hands. Still, it was a very good performance. This is what we expect.
“Repetitive intensity, high-pressing and a team that loves the chaos, a team of Leeds that has a high acceptance for mistakes.
“They don’t get frustrated by mistakes, they accept mistakes as chances to do counter-pressing and so on.”
Blues against hardy Whites
Leeds are set to entertain Chelsea TODAY.
It is scheduled to kick off at 2pm UK time.
Chelsea humiliated the Whites at the back end of last season when the teams met at Elland Road.
Rodgers on Wesley Fofana’s future
Brendan Rodgers claimed dropping Chelsea target Wesley Fofana for Saturday’s home defeat by Southampton was ‘straightforward.’
He said: “In terms of Wesley, it was a young player who is not in the right frame of mind to play at the moment.
“There’s a lot going on behind the scenes, which I understand. It’s a difficult moment for him.
“He’s a good kid who has been great for us while he’s been here. But you can’t afford to be around your team-mates and playing a Premier League game if you’re not fully focused.”
He added: “I have to make the call. As the manager, it’s my responsibility, once I speak to the player and get a feel for where he’s at and what he’s thinking.
“This situation was pretty straightforward really, because there’s so much going on in his mind.”
Good morning Chelsea fans
It's game day!
Chelsea take on Leeds at 2pm.
The Blues will be eager to do their fans proud after a fiery affair at Stamford Bridge last weekend – when they drew 2-2 with Tottenham.
Today, they come up against a rejuvenated Leeds side away from home.
But Jesse Marsch's team could feel a little deflated having recently threw away a two goal lead at St. Mary's to also draw 2-2 with Southampton.
Barcelona cool interest in Alonso
Barcelona’s interest in Marcos Alonso has reportedly “cooled.”
Alonso was said to be packing his bags to join Barca in previous weeks.
But Barcelona are now focused on registering the players they signed this summer – instead of recruiting new stars, David Ornstein reported.
The Catalan giants have even turned down the chance to bring him for free after Chelsea offered to add Alonso to the cash offer of £15m to sign Aubameyang.

Tuchel expects tough Leeds

United in Pulisic blow
Man Utd are set to miss out on signing Christian Pulisic from Chelsea, according to reports.
The Red Devils began to consider a loan deal for the winger earlier this week.
New boss Erik ten Hag is keen to add to his attacking ranks following United’s disastrous start to the Premier League season.
However, they may now have to consider alternative options as Pulisic is reluctant to make the switch.
According to The Daily Mail, he wants to join a club that is competing in the Champions League.
And if he cannot do this, he would prefer to remain at Stamford Bridge rather than make the move to Old Trafford.
