You are listening to the Expresso Entertainment Update. Here is the latest news from the world of Hollywood brought to you by The Indian Express.
“Let’s begin with news on Christian Bale, who says writer-director David O Russell had penned “at least 14” drafts of scripts for their upcoming period drama Amsterdam.
The film, starring Bale, Margot Robbie and John David Washington, is described as an original crime epic about three close friends, who find themselves at the centre of one of the most shocking secret plots in American history.
Christian Bale, who has previously worked with David O Russell on his Oscar-winning turn The Fighter and American Hustle, said “I counted at least 14 in my kitchen cupboard, at least. I opened the drawer, which I thought was a sock drawer, the other day and there were another two in there as well,””
“Hollywood veteran Al Pacino is set to star opposite Stanger Things actor Charlie Heaton in the movie Billy Knight. The drama, which marks writer-director Alec Griffen Roth’s feature film debut, also stars Diana Silvers. According to the entertainment website Variety, the film follows grad school students Alex, played by Heaton and Emily, played by Silvers, who dream of becoming filmmakers.
The plotline reads, “In addition to wanting to make it in the movie business, Alex is also grappling with the death of his father, a failed screenwriter. The only thing Alex’s father left him was a box of unfinished scripts and a handkerchief with the name Billy Knight embroidered on it. Those clues send Alex on a quest to find Billy Knight,””
“Meanwhile,
The controversial and sensationalised trial of Hollywood actors Johnny Depp and Amber Heard has now been converted into a movie. The film, called Hot Take, is a dramatised and fictionalised retelling of Depp-Heard’s defamation trial.
Mark Hapka of Days of Our Lives fame plays Johnny Depp, while Megan Davis is seen channelling Amber Heard in the released promo by free streaming service Tubi. Although seemingly on the nose, Hot Take will present both sides of the story. At one point in the video, Hapka’s Depp is heard saying, “Look man, look what she said about me,” even as we hear Megan’s Amber say, “It scared me.”
The film will release on September 30 on Tubi.

“In other news, Marvel boss Kevin Feige has revealed why the makers decided not to recast T’Challa aka Black Panther in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever. In a recent interview, Feige said it was ‘much too soon to recast Chadwick Boseman‘s role as the world was still mourning his loss.
Feige told Empire, “It just felt like it was much too soon to recast. Stan Lee always said that Marvel represents the world outside your window. And we talked about how, as extraordinary and fantastical as our characters and stories are, there’s a relatable and human element to everything we do. The world is still processing the loss of Chad.”

“Director Ryan Coogler’s long-awaited sequel to Black Panther, titled Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, will be released in theatres in November. But the journey hasn’t been easy. The filmmaker and his cast and crew had to grapple with the death of star Chadwick Boseman.
Coogler subsequently retooled the project into a moving tribute for not just Boseman’s character, T’Challa, but the actor himself. Coogler was faced with the question of how to carry on in the face of insurmountable odds. Talking to Empire, Coogler said, “Unfortunately, that question became more and more relevant. Both for humanity as a whole, but also for the people in our production who were coming back for this one,”
Black Panther: Wakanda Forever will release on November 11.”
“Moving on, an old video featuring some of the Avengers cast, including Hollywood stars Chris Hemsworth, Chris Evans, Robert Downey Jr and Mark Ruffalo has resurfaced on the internet. The actors are seen singing The Beatles’ beloved track “Hey Jude.”
In the shared clip posted by a Twitter handle called The MCU Cast, everyone seems to be singing along except Hemsworth, who is kind of just posing alongside his co-stars. The said video has been viewed 722K times, and the post itself has received over 9000 likes. The clip was shared with the caption, “Chris Evans, Chris Hemsworth, Robert Downey Jr, and Mark Ruffalo singing Hey Jude.”
Hemsworth wrote, “Maybe it’s time to get the band back together””
“Lastly,
Netflix has announced the acquisition of Sr., a documentary on the life of late Hollywood director Robert Downey Sr. The documentary, which had its world premiere at the Telluride Film Festival, comes from five-time Emmy nominated director Chris Smith, Netflix said in a press release.
Robert Downey Sr, who was also the father of Hollywood star Robert Downey Jr, was best known for the 1969 satirical comedy Putney Swope. He died in July 2021 at the age of 85 after suffering from Parkinson’s disease for more than five years.
Sr., described as an affectionate tribute to the maverick filmmaker, is produced by Team Downey’s Susan Downey and Robert Downey Jr along with Emily Barclay Ford and Kevin Ford.”
