Korean pop stars, or idols as they’re popularly known as are multi-talented artists. Not only can they sing, dance, and entertain millions of fans across the globe, they can also share screen space with seasoned actors in K-dramas and movies.
Here are some of the K-dramas that star popular idols.
Bae Suzy- Miss A
Suzy is a legend in her own right, having had a prolific career as an actor, solo artist, and member of the phenomenal K-pop group Miss A. She is such a good actor that she can make any character down-to-earth and relatable, from a punchy reporter in 'While You Were Sleeping' to a hardworking CEO with a dream in 'Start-Up'.
Yook Sung Jae – BtoB
Yook Sung-Jae is not only "born to beat" as a member of the K-pop group BtoB, but he is also BtoA: born to act. The 25-year-old first caught my attention in 'Goblin' as the cheeky, technologically savvy Yoo Deok-Hwa, and then again in 'Mystic Pop-up Bar' as the lonely, kindhearted Han Kang-bae. Either of these roles could have fallen flat, but as an actor, he brings a sense of wonder and joy to each, elevating them to greatness.
Kwon Na-ra- Hello Venus.
If you're new to the world of K-dramas, you probably first saw Kwon Na-impeccable Ra's acting abilities in the popular K-drama 'Itaewon Class'. If you liked her as the self-assured Oh Soo-ah in that show, you'd love her as the bold, quick-thinking prosecutor Cha Yoo-Jung in 'Suspicious Partner'. Whether she's playing a mysterious or a bubbly character, Na-ra can do it all!
If we're talking about K-pop idols who are also fantastic actors, Choi Si-won must be mentioned. Since his acting debut in 2005, the singer has appeared in various dramas and films, but he is best known for his roles in shows such as 'Revolutionary Love', 'SF8', and 'She Was Pretty'.
IU (Lee Ji-Eun)-IU is a solo artist.
Whether she's singing in front of sold-out stadiums around the world or playing a young woman accidentally transported back in time to the Goryeo dynasty in 'Moon Lovers Scarlet Heart: Ryeo', IU is more than just a celebrity. She is a genuine, one-of-a-kind star with boundless talent and charm.
It stands to reason that Eun-woo, a member of the Astro group, would become a star both on stage and on the big screen. Eun-performances, woo's are always fantastic, whether he's performing with his fellow band members at a concert or playing a creative prince in 'Rookie Historian Goo Hae Ryung'.
Park Hyung-Sik- ZE: A.
Park Hyung-Sik has an innate quality about his acting that makes you pay attention to him wherever he goes, regardless of what film or television role he's in. And he's in command of every scene he's in, whether he's an awkward inventor like in 'Juror 8' or a smug, sweetheart CEO like in 'Strong Woman Do Bong Soon'. It's a one-of-a-kind skill, and it's part of what makes Hyung-sik nothing short of spectacular in every role he plays.
V (Kim Tae-Hyung)-BTS
Worldwide heartthrob V may have only had one role as an actor so far, but I believe he deserves to be on this list because he nailed it as Suk Han-sung in 'Hwarang'. Not only did he expertly navigate his character's heartbreaking backstory, but his upbeat performance also added a lot of joy and fun to the show.
Krystal Jung- f(x).
Krystal is a true treasure! The f(x) member is known for her ability to play intense, complex, and compassionate women who are unafraid of a bit of danger if it means achieving their ultimate goals. But it's Krystal's superb acting that brings these characters to life; she always brings a delicate balance of elegance and grit to every role she takes on, whether it's the goddess of water in 'The Bride of Habaek' or a senior lieutenant in 'Search'.
